Whatnot 0% Commission Day August 7, 2026: What It Is and How to Sell It

Published August 3, 2026

Whatnot is dropping seller commission to zero for one full day on Friday, August 7, 2026. All sellers. Every category. Live shows and marketplace sales both.

There is nothing to sign up for. It applies automatically to every eligible sale inside the window.

What the day actually covers

The promotion runs 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM on August 7 in your local time. Your timezone is set by the home address on your account, aligned to your state's primary timezone, so a seller in Florida and a seller in California are working two different 24 hour windows.

Commission goes to 0%. That is the 8% most US sellers pay on the sale price.

Standard payment processing still applies. That is 2.9% of the total order value plus 30 cents in the US, and it is charged on the sale price plus shipping plus tax, not just the item price. Your payout will not be the full sale price. It will be the sale price minus processing.

Offers are the part sellers miss. An offer only qualifies if the buyer submits it and you accept it inside the window. An offer sitting in your queue at 11:59 PM that you accept Saturday morning is a normal commission sale.

Why Whatnot is doing this

This is the second platform wide zero commission day this year. Whatnot ran one in April, and it has been testing reduced commission by country, by category, and by price threshold all year.

Whatnot makes money when transactions happen. Giving up commission for a day costs them real money, and they are willing to spend it to pull more sellers live and more buyers into rooms on the same day. That tells you where their priority sits right now, and it is volume.

What that means for you is simple. Every seller who knows about this day is going to be live on Friday. The commission break is free. The buyers are not. You are competing for the same viewers against a much bigger field than a normal Friday.

How to use the day

Schedule the show now, not Friday morning. Your scheduled show is a signal. It gives the algorithm time to put you in front of people before you ever go live, and it gives your existing buyers time to see it and set a reminder.

Put your title and thumbnail in front of the right buyer. A day with more sellers live is a day where a vague title costs you more than it usually does. If your title says vintage decor, your first fifteen minutes should be vintage decor.

List your items. Whatnot cannot route buyers to your stream if it does not know what you are selling. Real keywords, not filler.

Run your normal length show. This is not the day to go live for eight hours because the commission is free. A long show with a tired seller in it converts worse than a tight show with a seller who is actually present.

Ship it correctly on Monday. A zero commission sale that turns into a bad review is not a win.

What buyers should know

If you shop Whatnot, Friday August 7 is worth watching. Sellers keep more of every sale that day, which means many of them will run more inventory, lower opening bids, and longer shows than usual.

You will not see a fee change on your end. Buyer shipping and pricing work the way they always do. What changes is how much shows up.

Questions people are asking

Do I need to opt in? No. It applies automatically to eligible sales in the window.

Does it apply to marketplace sales or just live? Both.

Is it only certain categories? No. This one is global and covers all sellers, unlike the category and country promotions Whatnot has been running.

Do I still pay any fees? Yes. Payment processing is unchanged.

How many shows can I run? As many as you want inside the window.

The takeaway

A free commission day does not fix a shop that buyers cannot find. It just makes a good Friday better and an invisible Friday cheaper.

If nobody is finding your room on a normal week, Friday is not going to change that. The beginning is what decides who gets sent to you, and that work happens before you ever hit go live.
